1. Learn more about an organization and help drive decisions that benefit the community.
Share your expertise and help shape the direction of organizations you care about. Learn about their mission and contribute your strategic thinking to critical initiatives.
2. Use your skills to fill gaps and support organizational capacity.
Put your professional skills to work! Non-profits constantly seek volunteers with talents in writing, graphic design, web development, event planning, and sales. Help them create compelling marketing materials, develop fundraising campaigns, or manage logistics for impactful events.
3. Develop leadership skills
You can grow in many different ways that will undoubtedly carry over into other aspects of your life. The new skills and experiences one can gain when volunteering with a nonprofit can build resumes and better prepare for the next career step.
4. Grow your network and expose your network to causes you care about
Serving on a board or committee is a fantastic way to connect with passionate people in your community. Volunteering alongside dedicated individuals can introduce you to new causes and even potential mentors. When you volunteer for a cause you care about, it’s not just about you. You can be a champion for positive change and inspire your family, friends, and colleagues to join the movement. Together, you can raise awareness about important issues and create a stronger, more vibrant community.

The Green Team
Troy Main Street is committed to making downtown Troy beautiful! Every month, groups of dedicated volunteers, known as the Green Team, spend time picking up litter along the downtown streets and sidewalks. We are proud and appreciative of their efforts. Keep our historic downtown looking vibrant and fresh by volunteering your time with this excellent group!
Special Events
Join us in organizing a diverse range of exciting and interactive events tailored for both our local community and visitors alike! Take the opportunity to volunteer and be a crucial part of making these vibrant experiences come to life. Your involvement will contribute to the success of our events, ensuring everyone has a memorable and enjoyable time. Seize the chance to be a valuable member of our event-planning team and help us create unforgettable moments for all.
Planning not your thing? That’s okay! You can volunteer for various event specific “jobs” such as hanging “no parking” signage, welcoming vendors, setup/tear down, and more! We need your help to take our planning from pencil & paper to action!
Santa Letter Respondents
You heard that right! Santa gets HUNDREDS of letters during the holiday season and he needs your help to ensure each mailer receives a thoughtful response! Find yourself on his nice list by volunteering your time to make a child's dreams come to life.
